Kelham Island Museum

We all had a great time today.

We went in an air raid shelter (great excitement), made our own gas masks, designed a meal using rationed food, looked at the contents of an evacuee’s suitcase and used the clues to identify who the person might be.

The day ended with seeing the world’s oldest steam engine in action.

Science – evolution

We have been learning about Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution. Darwin studied different types of finches that were native to the Galapagos Islands. He discovered that their beaks varied depending on the food available.

We used different equipment to represent different types of beaks (scissors, chop sticks and tweezers) and used the ‘beaks’ to pick up different foods.
