National Poetry Day in Year 6

We started the day with a Poetry Slam. We made score cards 1-5 which we used to judge each poem that we heard. Eve’s poem, ‘My Cattery’ was voted the winner.

The theme of National Poetry Day is Freedom. We read and then created our own freedom poems. James, Benny and Aaron read their poems in the celebration assembly. Well done to everyone.

Y6 Parent’s Night – Monday 25th September

A letter went out last night to inform you that, instead of individual appointments for this first parents’ evening, we have decided to hold an information evening for all Y6 parents. This blog post is to explain why we have done this.

We are holding a whole Y6 information evening at 6.15pm on Monday 25th September to give you all the same information about SATs, homework, routines and expectations. This is instead of individual meetings. The reason behind this is that we find most individual meetings consist of repeated information that is better given to Y6 parents as a group. There will be a chance for questions during this time to clarify any general concerns to all parents.

With regards to information or concerns specific to your child/children, the first parents evening is always about how your child has settled in generally as well as the aforementioned information. If there are any concerns about your child, we will be in touch. So it is safe to assume that if you do not hear from us that your child has settled in well. If, however, you do have specific concerns that you would like to be addressed on a 1-1 basis then we are available in school or via email.

We will be carrying out our first formal assessments of the Y6 children in the week beginning 16th October.  These will give us a really clear picture of where the children are in relation to Y6 expectations, and individual information will be shared after these.

The Y6 Team

Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome back!

Our Y6 class have started their last year at St Wilfrid’s very well . It was great to see their enthusiasm and positive attitudes to school. We are sure they will be a real credit to the school.

Homework will be posted under the homework tab.

If you have any questions, please do come in and see one of us.

Best wishes

Mrs Clements and Mrs Pearson
